Roost Fest

MTB Event / “from Riders for Riders”

Roost Fest is a gravity mountain biking event that took place in Semmering as the season finale in 2017 and 2019. It combines sport, community, and visual content culture in a format that comes directly from the scene.

Initiated by Mihai Bartha , Jerimy Jones , and myself, David Schärf , Roost Fest brings together riders and photographers of all ages as teams. Throughout the day, they compete against other athlete-artist duos to capture the best tricks, funniest moments, and most stylistically appealing images.

With classic contest flair, a multilingual moderated evening program and a final party, the community spirit is celebrated – loud, visual and directly on the mountain.

By actively participating in the event day and by specifically producing content that features the Heimberg, every rider contributes to making the Heimpark visible and desirable online – and to presenting it as they themselves see or want to show the mountain.

Roost Fest is not just an event, but a strategic storytelling tool for the region:
Every space becomes a stage, every scene a message.

Marketing Visuals

Roost Fest Poster

The visual theme for promoting the event was based on the concept of "roosting" – the powerful cornering motion on a mountain bike.

Every mountain biker understands the visual language: The wordplay surrounding the "Rooster", which drifts through the dirt and kicks up clouds of dust, anchors the event emotionally and visually directly in the scene.

Roost Fest Trophies

The event's minimalist theme – the rooster – was transferred to the trophies as a laser-cut wooden graphic. The choice of material and design reflected the raw aesthetic of the mountain tracks.

Community Push &

Social Buzz

Thanks to the motivated mechanics, shapers and MTB park staff, the event was promoted via social media channels.
Their energy and dedication – visible in every post and every clip – generated organic reach and authentic buzz.

Arena Sessions & Award Kickoff

To give photographers the opportunity to generate high-quality images for the Athlete-Artist Team Challenge main event, the classic Best Trick, Whip and Roost sessions were staged in the valley station arena at the end of the day.
They served as a visual highlight, a content booster – and an emotional prelude to the pre-party and award ceremony.

Photos from the event

To kick off the party, the produced images were presented in a joint voting session.
The volume of collective approval – shouts, cheers, energy – determined the top 3 placements in the main competitions in the knockout system.
The main event was the Athlete-Artist Team Challenge, held in two categories: STYLE & GOON .

Lines Magazine

Selected images from Roostfest were featured in Lines Magazine – a strong visual echo of the atmosphere, creativity and community spirit of the event.

Best Picture Voting – Multilingual Madness & Lager Love

The voting for the best picture was celebrated with plenty of beer, a good atmosphere, and a four-language presentation.
A wild mix of dialects, laughter and loud agreement – here are a few impressions of the collective state of emergency.

Pilot project with festival vision

The one-day Roostfest was deliberately designed as a test run – a functional prototype to test the event format.

Content Driven & Community Powered

The structure of the main competition – visual material production directly on location, combined with community voting – is a real marketing beast in the Roostfest vision, with many further development stages.
Authentic, engaging, shareable: a format that generates content, creates reach, and makes the community part of the narrative.
