BudderUp
Founder of BudderUp | Athlete Artist with One Vision | 2012 – 2020
Shortly after leaving Rip Curl, I founded BudderUp – a platform that combines athleticism and creative expression.
The aesthetics are heavily influenced by board culture – skate, surf, snow – and, as the slogan says, thrive on the relationship between athletes and creatives.
In the following chapters, I will show selected highlights that were created under the BudderUp label.
Until April 2021, I actively managed and developed BudderUp & BudderUp Movement
The "Couch Garden" Project
The Couch Garden Movie Project was a humorously staged marketing and documentary format featuring several Red Bull Crashed Ice athletes. The film showcased how Marco and Luca Dallago built a summer training track in the forest to prepare for the upcoming winter season. Its release generated international attention and propelled the BudderUp Athlete‑Artists Couch Garden Crew onto the global stage.

The originally planned “Couch Garden” BudderUp jerseys
After the overwhelming reactions online, in various magazines, and within the Crashed Ice rider community, Red Bullition Magazine reached out to produce a dedicated feature on the Austrian athletes who had developed this training track. For the accompanying photoshoot, custom BudderUp jerseys were created – see below.

The specially designed BudderUp jerseys were created around the athletes Marco Dallago (AUT), Luca Dallago (AUT), and Andreas Wirnstl (DE). The idea was to give each rider a unique design, providing them with a distinct visual identity for the 2014 competition season.
A multi‑page feature in Red Bullition Magazine (pages 74–81) played a significant role in further spreading the Couch Garden Movie.
The guerrilla marketing initiative became a full success, giving all involved — as well as the BudderUp brand — strong international visibility.
The official “Couch Garden” BudderUp jerseys
Shortly before the start of the 2014 Red Bull Crashed Ice season, the official rules for rider jerseys were released. These prohibited large‑scale branding across the entire jersey, which meant the originally planned BudderUp jerseys were no longer compliant. However, the design guidelines did not forbid illustrated, character‑based motifs or branded artworks. As a result, the BudderUp Couch Garden Hockey Bear and the Nature Warrior became the official designs for the BudderUp athletes.

World Champion 2014
With his victory at the Canadian event, Dallago also secured the title of Red Bull Crashed Ice World Champion 2014 — with an impressive lead of 1,410 points over the runner‑up.

“Couch Garden” functioned as an indirect branding vehicle and emerged as the central driver of BudderUp’s brand presence in the Red Bull Crashed Ice Cup.
BudderUp’s brand presence — amplified by the closely linked Couch Garden project — gained global reach. The impressions below highlight how strongly BudderUp’s identity was carried through the indirect Couch Garden branding.
The "Drop Shadow" Project
The Drop Shadow project emerged during the World Heli Challenge in New Zealand, at a time when Wanaka had become a gathering point for the international snowboard scene. To give the newly founded BudderUp label visibility, we teamed up with friends and locals to set up an improvised street spot right in the center of Wanaka — complete with delivered snow and a spontaneous night session.
By projecting the BudderUp icon in a light‑and‑shadow style, the logo spread like wildfire: almost every photo taken by the attending photographers carried the branding, and the action quickly found its way into social media and magazines. It was a true guerrilla moment that instantly put BudderUp on the map within the scene.

Preparations
Creating a creative foundation for content production by organizing a street spot for a snowboard photoshoot in the center of Wanaka (NZ). Snowboarders and photographers documented the session while the BudderUp logo was projected as a shadow silhouette onto the main wall — generating branded content automatically.

The Session
The content was shared by several magazines and online platforms, making BudderUp internationally visible with just a single action.
